By-laws

  1. Wildlife should not be disturbed.
  2. Dogs must be kept under proper control, particularly in the nesting season for ground-nesting and water birds.
  3. No cars, motorcycles, mopeds and other motor vehicles of any description are allowed.
  4. Cycles should be used with due care and consideration for other users of the meadow.
  5. No fires or barbecues of any description are allowed on the meadow.
  6. No litter should be discarded in or on the meadow or in the river. All litter should be taken home.
  7. Damage to the Hurst Water Meadow, including the river banks, trees, meadow and fences is strictly forbidden.
  8. No shooting is allowed on the meadow.
  9. No camping or overnight stay is allowed.
  10. To preserve the tranquillity of the meadow, only personal radios (walkman type) using earphones are allowed. No transistor radios or other electronically amplified music is allowed.
  11. Metal detectors are not permitted unless authorized in writing by the County Archaeologist and the trustees.
  12. Fishing is allowed in season (16 June to 14 March) to holders of a permit obtainable from the Post Office. A rod licence is also required. Fishing is permitted only in the areas shown on the map and is subject to separate by-laws.

The trustees do not accept liability for accidents or misadventures which may occur on the Hurst Water Meadow, or adjacent water, or other property owned or leased by the trustees, however caused. Recreation on the meadow and its surroundings is at the user's risk.
