The project gets under way. Dr Metcalfe marking out plots for sowing
wildflowers. Or is he planning a mower grand prix?!
The first move was to cut the grass as low as possible in
four strips. The ground was scarified to expose bare earth, and Yellow Rattle
was sown.

Clearing the way for hedge preparation - November
2004
The second part of the flower project was to restore an ancient hedge across
the meadow. A volunteer using a strimmer to cleared some of the
vegetation.
A JCB was used to remove vegetation from a 120-metre by one-metre strip.

Hedge restored along line of ancient hedge - March
2005
The hedge was planted in one day by a contractor.
Finally tree guards were fitted around the plants to protect them. Now
we have to wait patiently for the hedge to grow.
