Painting bridge rails

Painting

The bridge rails and gate were smartened up and preserved with paint by cheerful volunteers. The views of the public were sought on the colour and no complaints have been received.

Three ecologists studying the autumn flora in the scrape. Teasels are abundant. Willow seedlings have been removed by hand. Much of interest remains.

Repairing culvert

Repairing culvert

The culvert over the old drain (formerly called 'the rushing stream') was damaged by a tractor. Repairs were undertaken by volunteers with the help of our tractor and trailer. Materials were kindly donated by Rogers Concrete.

Twenty osiers (Salix viminalis) were planted by volunteers on 24 Jan 2001 by the flood drain below the culvert. As well as providing an attractive feature, coppicing will produce withies for willow spiling for river bank maintenance.
