Achievements
The Hurst Water Meadow has many achievements to be proud of.

Fixing tree guards - March 2005

Flower Project
- in 2004 Dr John Metcalfe started an innovative four year project aimed at
enhancing plant biodiversity on the meadow and restoring a hedge. Read his
latest report.

Overseeding
project - the success of Dr Metcalfe's project has encouraged us to undertake overseeding three hectares starting in September 2006.

Education - one of the main objectives of the Trust is
to advance public education. The Trust actively encourages school
visits to the meadow and the use of material from the website.

Weir bridge widened and second handrail fitted. 2001

Buck Pool Spinney footbridges
- improvement of existing bridges and construction of a new bridge across
the flood drain. The story in pictures. |

Replacement of main access bridge.
The bridge collapsed in September 1997. Temporary repairs were carried
out, and permanent replacement by a substantial single span structure with
four steel girders and a reinforced concrete deck (see picture), was
completed in October 1998.

OSCA Certificate 2001
|
The Trust was awarded a certificate of commendation and a cheque for £200
for the website, as part of the County's "Oxfordshire Special
Conservation Awards" scheme. Visits to the site are increasing every
month and a number of requests for advice have been received as a result. |

Buck Pool Spinney -a licence was signed on 31 March 2001 for access, for `wildlife
conservation, public recreation and angling, to a site (2.4 acres) of `severed
land' between Buck Pool and the Dorchester bypass.

Second scrape - May 2006
|
Second scrape - in May 2006 local schoolchildren helped plant wild flowers in a
recently dug second scrape.
In June 2006 the raising of the access
track and footpath was completed.
