A ground-dwelling bird found on the Hurst throughout the year.

A very common visitor to the Hurst. Can be seen in flocks outside the breeding season.

Chaffinch, Fringilla coelebs

Grey Heron, Ardea cinerea

A large wetland bird often found quietly standing still on the Hurst or in the river or flying over.

Seen flying along the river. Doesn't sit still for long.

Kingfisher, Alcedo atthis

Mallard, Anas platyrhynchos

A very familiar duck in the Dorchester area.

A young robin, not yet developed its familiar red breast.

Robin, Erithacus rubecula
